Who We Are
United Church of Christ
Salem is a proud member of our denomination, the United Church of Christ.
Someone once described the United Church of Christ as "a young church with an old soul." The UCC was founded in 1957, a merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, and the Congregational Church. Although the UCC was formed just in the past century, the churches that formed it represent some of the oldest traditions in Protestant Christianity.
In the United Church of Christ, we value freedom of conscience, a unity in Christ that helps us work through our many differences, a belief that God is still speaking, and a committment to extravagent welcome in Christ's name to all of God's children, no matter who, no matter where they are on life's journey.
